The dentists at Pacific Dental Smiles now offer Invisalign to dental patients. Invisalign is a great solution to crooked or misaligned teeth and is generally viewed as an alternative to metal braces. Invisalign’s approach involves a series of clear, removable teeth aligners.
There are many advantages to choosing Invisalign, the most obvious being almost no interference with the patient’s appearance. The teeth aligners are completely transparent and hard to detect by one’s peers. This is attractive to most teens and adults who want to avoid the look of metal braces.
Another valuable benefit of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable and in turn more comfortable than traditional braces. Because Invisalign aligners can be removed it makes eating and cleaning your teeth much easier. This prevents tooth decay and plaque build up that usually accompanies metal braces. Also, there are no food restrictions with Invisalign. Traditional braces often come with a list of restricted foods that may damage the appliance, but not with Invisalign. Patients are free to enjoy their favorite foods without hesitation.
Studies show that Invisalign produces the same results as braces in less time. This is another major advantage. A large-scale study of 408 patients with traditional appliances on average needed braces for 35.92 months, while Invisalign is estimated to produce an end result in 12–18 months. For most patients the less time it takes to see permanent results, the better.
How it works
Invisalign treatment starts with a series of x-rays, bite registrations, and tooth impressions that help the dentist design a plan of action. Then these materials are sent to Align Technology where the aligners are constructed.
Each transparent aligner should be worn 20 hours every day for up to three weeks. As mentioned earlier, the aligners should be removed for activities like eating, drinking, brushing your teeth, and flossing. After treatment is complete, a retainer may be recommended to maintain the results of Invisalign.
